Carthage Receivers Terian “Tee” Goree + O’Keeron Rutherford Commit to North Texas

North Texas landed two big East Texas commitments -- literally and figuratively -- around midday Tuesday.

Goree and Rutherford are enjoying monster senior seasons catching passes from classmate Blake Bogenschutz, who is committed to another Conference-USA school, UTSA. The 6-foot-2 1/2, 170-pound Goree has 70 catches for 1,435 yards and 23 touchdowns, a Carthage single-season school record. He's 83 yards shy of the CHS single-season record held by Wyoming receiving Jalen Claiborne, who had 104 catches for 1,518 yards and 18 touchdowns in the 2010 season for the Bulldogs.

Rutherford, who is a legitimate 6-foot-5 and 181 pounds, enters Friday's Class 3A Division I Region III semifinal vs. Silsbee at 4 p.m. at Provost Umphrey Stadium in Beaumont with 48 catches for 749 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Rutherford, who also has a ULM offer, visited North Texas on Nov. 9, when the Mean Green routed UTEP 41-7 on homecoming.

"I liked being up there," he said. "I liked being close to home. I didn't wanna go too far away."

Goree chose the Mean Green over eight other offers: Colorado, Colorado State, Louisiana Tech, Memphis, San Diego State, ULL, ULM, and UTSA.

Goree and Rutherford have fueled a record-setting season for Bogenschutz, who enters Friday's game with 3,187 yards, a school record 45 touchdowns, and three interceptions. Bogenschutz has shattered Carthage's career passing yards and touchdown pass records this season.

Goree and Rutherford are the first East Texas players in the 2014 class to commit to North Texas, but are 2 of 7 East Texans in the class to hold an offer from UNT. The Mean Green has one offer out in East Texas' 2015 class: Whitehouse cornerback Nate Brooks.
