John Tyler’s Rodney Bendy Commits to North Texas

Less than a week after receiving his first Division I FBS offer from North Texas, John Tyler 2015 wide receiver Rodney Bendy offered up his commitment to the Mean Green.

Bendy (6-4, 180) has all the physical tools necessary to play at the next level. His height gives him favorable matchups against shorter cornerbacks, while improved aggressiveness and pass-catching ability has caught the eye of college recruiters.

North Texas, which has offered 2016 Frankston wideout Kendrick Rogers (6-4) and signed Carthage's receiving duo of O'Keeron Rutherford (6-5) and Terian "Tee" Goree (6-2) in February, has fallen in love with tall and rangy East Texas receivers.

The Mean Green were active in East Texas' 2014 recruiting class. In addition to signing Rutherford and Goree, UNT also signed Elkhart running back Jeffery Wilson, Sulphur Springs running back Willy Ivery and Pine Tree quarterback Caleb Chumley.

North Texas has two other offers out to 2015 East Texans -- Whitehouse defensive back Nate Brooks and Lufkin offensive lineman Erik McCoy.

Bendy had a solid junior season for JT, finishing with 28 receptions for 361 yards and four touchdowns in 2013. He'll be part of an impressive group of returning skill players for the Lions, which includes quarterback Geovari McCollister, running back Jeremy Wilson and receivers Nick Cain and Duntavion Gross.

John Tyler, which finished 7-4 a season ago, will compete in the new District 16-5A along with Corsicana, Ennis, Jacksonville, Lindale, Lufkin, Nacogdoches and Whitehouse.
