TEXARKANA -- Cade Pearson threw three touchdowns and receiver Quan Hampton had another big night to help No. 8 Texas High beat Pine Tree, 38-3, giving the Tigers their fifth unbeaten regular season in school history.

Texas High (10-0, 6-0) cruised to the District 16-5A championship and will face West Mesquite in the bi-district round of the Class 5A Division I playoffs at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Royse City.

Pearson was nearly flawless against Pine Tree, completing 16 of 20 passes for 212 yards and three touchdowns. He finished the regular season with 2,067 yards and 23 touchdowns on 128 of 177 passing (72 percent).

Hampton was on the receiving end of eight of those completions for 154 yards and a touchdown, with all but 23 yards coming in the first half. His 28-yard touchdown late in the first half was his ninth of the season and also gave the Tigers a 24-0 lead at the break.

Tevailance Hunt, who finished with six catches for 85 yards, caught Pearson's two other touchdown passes in the win.

Juan Giminez's field goal late in the fourth quarter helped Pine Tree avoid the shutout. The Pirates finished 2016 with a 3-7 overall record and 2-4 in district.

Hampton slipped on the next Pirate punt and the ball rolled dead at the Tigers' 10.

Eleven plays later Hampton hauled in his record-tying catch with 47 seconds left in the half and sprinted 28 yards for his ninth touchdown catch of the season.

Pine Tree suffered a big loss late in the second quarter when sophomore quarterback Keshon Williams went down with an injury. He accounted for 47 of the Pirates' 59 first half yards.
