EDGEWOOD -- Emory Rains rallied from a loss in the first set for a 21-25, 25-18, 25-18, 25-23 win against Mabank in the Class 3A bi-district round Tuesday at Edgewood High School. Setters Shelbi Sheppard and Corely Cole turned in excellent performances with 33 assists and 18 assists, respectively. Cole also recorded five blocks in the victory.

HAWKINS -- The Longview Lady Lobos are through to the second round of the volleyball playoffs, thanks to a dominating performance Tuesday night. Longview rolled to a 25-12, 25-20, 25-15 sweep of Whitehouse in their Class 5A bi-district match, using a relentless attack and strong defense at the net.

TYLER -- There have to be better rewards out there for winning a district championship than facing a Carolee Musick-coached squad in the opening round of the state playoffs. Musick helped guide White Oak to four consecutive state tournament appearances between 2009 and 2012 and brought her mentality to Pine Tree three seasons ago.
