SHREVEPORT, La. -- Bossier City Parkway and Lufkin put forth an offensive performance of epic proportions Saturday evening at the annual Battle on the Border showcase.

In a game that featured more than 1,400 yards of total offense, Parkway outlasted Lufkin, 69-54, at a rainy Independence Stadium.

Parkway (2-0), which reached the Louisiana Class 5A semifinals a season ago, was virtually unstoppable, producing an astonishing 812 yards. Seven of Parkway's 10 touchdowns covered 35 yards or more, including four of five in the second half.

There were plenty of standouts for Parkway, including junior quarterback Justin Rogers. The 2018 recruit passed for 378 yards and five touchdowns. His scoring tosses covered 9, 37, 5, 54, and 73 yards.

Parkway junior receiver Terrace Marshall, widely regarded as one of the nation's premier recruits at his position, had a field day. He finished with six catches for 233 yards and four touchdowns.

Robert McKnight, a UTSA commit, put up 298 yards from scrimmage and scored three times, including a 99-yard touchdown run in the third quarter one play after an interception. McKnight ran 11 times for 225 yards, and caught seven passes for 73 yards.

Despite the loss, Lufkin finished the game with 612 yards of offense. Quarterback Kordell Rodgers, a Texas State pledge, completed 25 of 35 attempts for 350 yards with five touchdowns and two interceptions. He also ran for a couple of scores.

Dhailon Phillips led Lufkin with eight receptions for 170 yards and two touchdowns.

Lufkin senior running back Kahlil Brown turned in a career-best performance, rushing for 234 yards and three touchdowns on 34 carries. He added 54 yards on three receptions.

“I thought those kids did a good job, I thought they fought their tail off," Lufkin coach Todd Quick said of his offense. "We had some kids that did. Very proud of those kids. I was very pleased with the effort. They could’ve very easily gotten down, but they kept answering.”

McKnight's 99-yard scoring run gave Parkway a 28-21 lead with 6:32 remaining in the first half. It was set up by Johnathon Jones' first of two interceptions on the day.

Lufkin was forced to play catch up the rest of the way.

Brown scored on a 48-yard run on the ensuing possession, but the extra point attempt was no good, leaving Parkway up 28-27. And Parkway scored right before the half on Rogers' 5-yard pass to Chase Hill.

Lufkin and Parkway each scored three touchdowns in the third quarter, as Parkway entered the fourth with a 56-47 lead.

Rodgers' 1-yard touchdown on the first play of the fourth quarter cut Lufkin's deficit to 56-54, but running back E.J. Williams hit Marshall for a 46-yard touchdown on a double-pass, pushing Parkway's lead to 63-54.

Jones' second interception of Rodgers ended Lufkin's next drive, and Parkway added its final touchdown to put the game away -- a McKnight 26-yard run with 6:40 remaining.

Lufkin junior safety Savon Fields, one the Panthers' top defenders, was injured midway through the first quarter and did not return.

“It’s just like (losing your quarterback)," said Quick, who added that Fields wanted to come back in. "But that started before he went out. But he makes a big difference for us, he is a great football player.”

Lufkin returns to action next Friday night at home against Prepa Tec of Monterey, Mexico, in the Panthers' final game before District 12-6A play begins. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
