COLLEGE STATION -- Central Heights fought back to tie its Class 2A Region III baseball semifinal series with Troy on Saturday, but the Blue Devils fell just short of reaching the fifth round.

Troy used a three-run third inning to take control of Game 3, while Jon Malmin pitched a two-hitter to lead the Trojans to a 6-1 series-clinching win at A&M Consolidated High School.

Central Heights won 5-3 earlier Saturday in Game 2 to force Game 3 after losing 3-0 in Friday's Game 1.

Central Heights took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first of Game 3, but Troy tied the game in the second and added three runs in the third for a 4-1 advantage. The Trojans tacked on two more in the six during their 10-hit performance that sealed the series.

Central Heights' Alex Phillips had a double. Phillips also earned the Game 2 win in Saturday's first contest, which saw the Blue Devils scored two in the third to erase a 1-0 deficit. Central Heights added three in the sixth for a 5-1 lead, holding off a seventh-inning Troy rally to tie the series for the time being.
