ROYSE CITY -- It took a quarter for Chapel Hill to get adjusted to the 35-degree temperature and constant rain. But after the first 12 minutes, it was on.

Andrew Black ran for three touchdowns and the Bulldogs rushed for nearly 500 yards en route to a 38-14 win over Crandall on Friday night at Bulldog Stadium in the area round of the Class 3A Division I playoffs.

Chapel Hill (8-4) will play the nightcap of a District of Doom doubleheader in the regional semifinals next Friday night at City Bank Stadium in Forney. The Bulldogs will face Decatur -- a 48-7 winner over Wilmer-Hutchins on Friday -- at 7:30 p.m. Friday, just a few hours after District 16-3A champ Kilgore plays Frisco Lone Star at 2 p.m.

Chapel Hill and Crandall combined for 34 yards of total offense compared to 30 yards in penalties in the first quarter, but Black and Wesley Thompson spearheaded a rushing onslaught.

Black rushed for 216 yards and three touchdowns on just 14 carries, while Thompson totaled 117 yards and a touchdown on 17 attempts.

"In all the years that I've coached, I've never been part of a game that has been that miserable as far as conditions went," Chapel Hill coach Thomas Sitton said. "I was very proud of our kids for fighting through it and staying enthusiastic. [After the first quarter] we finally started finding the stuff that was gonna get 'em. Our O-line did an unbelievable job. I'm very proud to get out of here tonight with a win."

Crandall's only spark on offense came from running back Nate Banks, who ran for 255 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries. The Pirates leaned heavily on their running back after starting quarterback Garrett Spradling left the game injured after the first play of the game and didn't return.

Outside of Banks' monster performance, the rest of the Crandall offense managed just 86 yards on 32 carries.

Banks took the handoff on the first play of the second half 75 yards to paydirt to get Crandall within 22-14, but Black responded on the Bulldogs' first play with a 53-yard touchdown run of his own.

The play of the game followed on the extra point try, in which Black mishandled the snap, took off toward the left sideline, backed up a few yards and launched the ball completely across the field to a wide-open Lex Heckel for the two-point conversion and put the game out of reach at 30-14.

The Black-Thompson duo scored all three of Chapel Hill's first-half touchdowns, highlighted by Black's 85-yard touchdown run to put the Bulldogs up 14-0 following Thompson's 8-yard touchdown run.

Banks took off for an 80-yard touchdown run in response to Black's 85-yarder to cut Chapel Hill's lead to 14-7 in the second quarter.

Black, who only attempted two passes in the game and did not have a completion, added a 4-yard score just before halftime to put Chapel Hill up 22-7 at the break.

"Andrew's a great competitor and, of course, as the weeks have gone this year, he's gotten better and better," Sitton said. "He's got great vision when he runs the ball. We do a lot of read-game with him where he has to read a certain defender on different plays. Just an all-around great game tonight."
