PARIS -- Pottsboro went toe-to-toe with Daingerfield in Friday's Class 2A Division I Region II semifinal.

For about a quarter and a half.

Daingerfield turned a four-point lead through the game's first 21 points into a 56-10 third-round blowout with an array of big plays to propel the Tigers to the regional championship.

Daingerfield (10-3) faces District 8-2A D-I rival New Boston (12-1) in next week's 2A D-I Region II title bout, which is a rematch of the Tigers' 40-16 Oct. 4 home win. Daingerfield and New Boston met twice in 2012: New Boston won the regular-season meeting 38-37, but Daingerfield won the regional final rematch 35-28.

Cordarius Anderson led Daingerfield with 160 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries, while Keris Alexander completed 8 of 11 passes for 207 yards and two scores to accompany his one-yard first-quarter touchdown run. Keynon Whetstone carried four times for 100 yards and a touchdown and caught a touchdown pass.

Daingerfield led 14-10 halfway through the second quarter before Anderson's five-yard touchdown run and Whetstone's 24-yard touchdown reception from Alexander pushed the Tigers ahead 28-10 by halftime.

Three huge plays put the game away in the second half. A 99-yard touchdown strike from Alexander to Keaton Key gave Daingerfield a 35-10 lead seven minutes into the third, then a 60-yard Anderson run stretched the lead to 42-10 through three quarters. Key caught four passes for a game-high 148 yards.

Whetstone sprinted 64 yards for a touchdown and 39-point lead early in the fourth before Spencer Alexander's 30-yard fumble return touchdown capped the scoring 19 seconds later with 9:01 to play, 56-10.

Daingerfield outgained Pottsboro 530-218.

Pottsboro's Hunter Mullenix completed 11 of 15 passes for 153 yards and a touchdown, a first-quarter 50-yarder to Kory Waller, who caught five passes for 74 yards. Waller scored all 10 of Pottsboro's points as he also kicked a 31-yard field goal a minute and a half into the second quarter and booted the PAT following his touchdown grab.

The loss dropped Pottsboro to 11-2 and snapped the Cardinals' 10-game winning streak dating to early September.

Waller's field goal answered Keris Alexander's first-quarter touchdown sneak to cut Daingerfield's lead to 7-3. Whetstone then scored from 13 yards for an 11-point advantage before the Mullenix-to-Waller 50-yarder trimmed the Tiger edge to 14-10, setting the stage for Daingerfield to pull away in the latter stages of the second quarter and into the second half.
