CRANDALL -- The Athens Hornets scored early and often to secure a playoff spot Friday night with a dominating 62-22 win over Crandall.

With the win, coach Paul Essary's Hornets are 6-3 overall and 3-1 in District 8-4A Division I play.

AHS wraps up the regular season Friday night with senior night at Bruce Field. Kickoff for the game against Wills Point is set for 7:30 p.m.

The Hornets were led in rushing by junior Texas A&M commit Travon Fuller, who finished with three carries for 120 yards, while senior Devin Hall added 118 yards on nine carries.

On the opening possession of the game, Athens linebacker Tim Tanner had his first interception of the game off Crandall quarterback Thomas Lunsford.

The Hornets then went to work as Fuller had his first touchdown of the game on a 17-yard run with 10:17 remaining in the opening quarter.

On the next Athens series, Chad Head found Fuller for his second touchdown as he went 37-yards to paydirt for the 14-0 lead with 8:12 remaining. Hall ran in the two-point conversion.

Crandall was able to cut into the deficit with a 76-yard drive as Michael Dearman scored on a two-yard touchdown with 3:19 remaining in the opening quarter. Dearman found Jordan Bryant for the two-point conversion to cut the deficit to 14-8.

Following an onside kick attempt by the Pirates, Hall found a seam and went 55-yards down to the Crandall two-yard line. On the next play, junior Logan Fuller cashed in with the touchdown for the 21-8 lead with 2:57 remaining in the opening quarter.

In the second quarter, Logan Fuller scored his second touchdown of the game with a two-yard plunge with 8:30 remaining.

Tim Tanner recorded his second interception of the game to set the Hornets up in great field position as Logan Fuller cashed in with his third touchdown on a one-yard touchdown with 6:32 remaining in the opening half.

Logan Fuller scored his third touchdown of the first half on a one-yard plunge to give the Hornets a 42-8 lead with 4:16 remaining in the opening half.

The Pirates duo of Bryant and Dearman connected once again as Crandall headed into the locker room down 42-15 with 1:01 remaining.

On the opening possession of the third quarter, Hall powered his way in from nine-yards out for the 49-15 lead with 10:11 left in the quarter.

Travon Fuller added another touchdown with 6:18 remaining on an 87-yard touchdown for the 55-15 lead.

Athens wrapped up the scoring as Chris Prox ran in a 34-yard touchdown with 3:43 remaining in the game to seal the win.

Logan Fuller finished the game with 14 carries for 93 yards, while senior quarterback Chad Head was 2-for-3 passing for 47 yards.
