Longview Makes It Look Easy With 51-0 Shutout of Mount Pleasant
MOUNT PLEASANT – Even before the rain moved into the area, Longview and Mount Pleasant was a contest that was going to be determined on the ground.
With constant rain but no delays, Friday’s footrace was all Longview in a 51-0 triumph over the Tigers here at Sam Parker Field.
Longview runs its record to 6-2 on the season and 4-1 in 15-5A play while the loss drops Mount Pleasant to 2-6 in 2015 and 2-3 in district contests.
Longview used a bevy of backs in a 320-plus night on the ground with seven Lobos notching at least 20 rushing yards and five finding paydirt. Those scorers were Jon Sorey, Austin Moore, Tylan Miller, Braylynn Anthony and Tyler Buchanan-Anderson.
Place kicker Cody Jenkins notched a 32-yard field to round out the Lobos’ offense.
Defensively, Josh Johnson and Keenan Madden had scoop-and-scores. Johnson’s return totaled 40 yards and Madden’s recovery went 15 yards to the endzone for the Lobos, who held Mount Pleasant to a tick over 50 yards rushing on the night.
Sorey’s four-yard score and Moore’s rumble of five yards put Longview up 14-0 after the first quarter. Miller got in on the scoring barrage early in the second and Jenkins split the uprights with just over two minutes until the break from 32 yards aways.
Johnson and Madden put the finishing touches on an all-Longview firs half with two defensive scores inside the second quarter’s final minute for a commanding 38-0 Longview lead at halftime.
Anthony, who led the way with 90 yards on the ground, scored from seven yards out in the third quarter and Buchanan-Anderson (49 yards total) added a two-yard scamper with 53 seconds left to close out the 51-0 rout.
Miller totaled 48 yards, D’Crayvan Polk tallied 44 and quarterback Michael Ross added 33 on the contest, which featured just nine pass attempts combined.
Mount Pleasant’s Zak Dean paced the Tigers with 39 rushing yards.
Longview hosts Sulphur Springs in its next tilt while Mount Pleasant makes the jaunt to Marshall.
