TYLER -- Ozzie Buckner, Kendrick Rogers and the rest of the Frankston Indians made it quick and relatively painless for Grand Saline on the way to a 49-7 win Saturday at Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium.

Buckner threw for 303 yards and rushed for 40 more. Rogers recorded 213 receiving yards in the game, and a strong all-encompassing running game burned through the second half in about 30 minutes of real time with the aid of a running clock in the fourth quarter.

Frankston's defense forced three turnovers and stopped Grand Saline on fourth down three times.

"It feels great when you've got a lot of weapons you can use as a quarterback," Buckner said. "You just feel unstoppable. You've got a big front five that knows their technique. It feels good. We did this as a team. The defense played great. There are no individuals."

Rogers set up Frankston's first touchdown with a 73-yard run on a dink pass from Buckner. He added a 79-yard score and then made a one-handed 24-yard touchdown grab while drawing a pass interference call.

The 6-4, 185-pound junior also scored on a 66-yard reception, but the play was called back on a controversial unnecessary roughness penalty when a blocker hit a defender a few yards behind the play.

Buckner completed 13-of-20 passes and scored three touchdowns on the ground.

It's worth noting primary running back Oran Jenkins was unavailable for the game with an injury. Javon Shavers led the running backs group with 49 yards and two scores while the depth racked up another 34 yards on nine carries.

Grand Saline dropped out of the game quickly with penalties. It committed 16 infractions to Frankston's five.

The starting quarterback for Grand Saline was ejected in the second quarter after a scuffle with a Frankston player. The Frankston athlete was disqualified as well.

Grand Saline did not complete a pass the rest of the day, finishing with 81 yards and its touchdown through the air. The running game picked up 139 yards.

"The greatest thing about our team is we have so much improvement we can make," Frankston head coach Matt Nally said. "We will improve. Our kids are working really hard."

Frankston had a clear talent advantage. Rogers already has two scholarship offers -- North Texas and SMU -- and the squad found a way into the first round of the playoffs last season with a 3-7 regular season record. Grand Saline was winless in 2013.

Nally saw some things he would like corrected by Friday when his squad takes on Sabine. He also sees progress at Grand Saline.

"Defensively, we've got to be a better tackling team," he said. "Grand Saline did a great job of scheming and running the football. We, as a defensive unit, cannot give up chunks of yards like they were getting. They're a great group of guys with great coaches and great kids over at Grand Saline."

The starting Grand Saline quarterback ran in for a 47-yard score, but the touchdown was negated by a holding call. He also picked up gains of 23 yards and 10 yards and scored the team's lone touchdown on a 27-yard pass to Lane Davis.

Davis led his team with 89 total yards.

Grand Saline will play at home Friday against Winona.

"We wanted to come out here and win and play as a team," Rogers said. "We can improve on some things, but we played really well today. The win gives us confidence and shows us if we play together we can do anything."
