LONGVIEW -- The Beckville Ladycats continued their hot start to the volleyball season with a 3-0 performance Saturday to capture the Longview Tournament championship.

Beckville (6-0) earned wins over White Oak (25-18, 25-14), Longview (25-16, 25-18), and Pine Tree (25-20, 25-21) on the day.

Payton Jones led Beckville against White Oak with six kills, an ace, and three digs. Hannah Humphries added five kills, one block, and three digs, Riley Seegers finished with five kills, three aces, and six digs, Jordan Tondreau contributed four kills, an ace, and a dig, while Kinley Pepper chipped in with 21 assists, a kill, two aces, and five digs.

Against Longview, Humphries led the way with five kills. Seegers had four kills and a block, Jones added four kills and six digs, while Pepper assisted on 15 points and added two aces and six digs.

In the victory over Pine Tree, Seegers finished with eight kills, two blocks, two aces, and a dig. Jones added four kills and seven digs, Tondreau had three kills, and an assist, and five digs, Humphries provided three kills and pair of digs, while Pepper registered 19 assists and six digs.

Seegers, Humphries, and Courtlyn Nail were each named to the all-tournament team.

Beckville's season resumes Tuesday at Henderson.

 

Carthage Comes in Fourth in Garland

GARLAND -- The Carthage Lady Dawgs went 1-2 on Saturday to finish in fourth place at the Garland ISD Tournament.

Carthage (5-3) earned a spot in the third-place game by defeating Wylie East, 25-17, 25-17. It then dropped back-to-back matches to Denton Braswell (23-25, 25-21, 25-21) and Forney (25-10, 25-21).

The Lady Dawgs play host to Whitehouse on Tuesday.

 

Emory Rains Goes 1-2 in Garland

GARLAND -- The Emory Rains Lady Wildcats dropped two of its three matches Saturday at the Garland ISD Tournament.

Following a 25-21, 25-21 defeat of Carrollton Ranchview, Rains (2-5) dropped matches to Texas High (25-18, 26-24) and Carrollton Newman Smith (25-18, 11-25, 25-20).

Shelbi Sheppard led Rains in the win against Ranchview with nine kills and 12 assists. She and Presley McAree also combined on 19 digs. McKenna Hildebrant added nine kills as well.

Hildebrant and Sheppard had four kills apiece against Texas High, while Sheppard and Vivian Bradshaw each contributed six assists. Elissa Elliott chipped in with 11 digs.

Aubrey Gowin and Hildebrant each provided five kills and two blocks in the loss to Newman Smith, while Sheppard finished with four kills, 14 assists, two aces, and 14 digs.

Rains is back in action Tuesday at Sunnyvale.
