BIG SANDY -- Beckville got the last laugh against Tyler Grace.

The Lady Bearcats (11-3) defeated Grace for the Big Sandy Tournament title Saturday, just two days after falling to the Lady Cougars in an earlier tournament match.

Beckville won the championship match, 25-17, 25-18.

Kassidy Alexander recorded 19 of 21 team assists and Carson Blair led the Lady Bearcats with nine kills.

Blair was named MVP of the tournament and Carley Lawhorn was selected to the all-tournament team immediately after the game.

The Big Sandy Tournament champions defeated New Boston earlier in the day, 25-9, 25-17.

Beckville took away 24 potential points from New Boston with digs. Blair once again led the team with eight kills and Stacie Brevard served up five aces to send the Lady Bearcats to the championship game.

 

Lady Lions Go 2-1 At ETBU Tournament

MARSHALL -- John Tyler finished in second place in the Challenger Bracket at the East Texas Baptist University Tournament with a 2-1 record Saturday.

It wasn't easy. The team lost the first set in each of its two wins.

The Lady Lions defeated Elysian Fields, 16-25, 25-11, 25-17 then topped Mount Pleasant, 17-25, 25-18, 25-17.

John Tyler fell to Henderson, 17-25, 19-25.

Jo Preston led the team in kills with 10 against Elysian Fields. Dede Rouege added seven kills and seven digs.

Bean Tilley did a good job holding serve, and put up five kills and one block.

Rouege had the best overall game against Mount Pleasant with six kills, seven digs and seven blocks. Jo Preston once again led the team with 11 kills in addition to her three blocks and eight digs.

Rouege and Tilley combined for 12 kills against Henderson.

John Tyler won't have to wait very long for the opportunity to avenge the loss against Henderson. The two teams meet Henderson in addition to White Oak in a tri-match Tuesday.

 

Marshall Wins ETBU Tournament + Gilmer Advances To Championship Game

MARSHALL -- The Lady Mavericks won the ETBU Tournament's championship game with a 25-19, 17-25, 25-20 match against Gilmer.

Marshall's individual stats were not submitted as of Saturday evening.

Gilmer reached the championship game with a 25-18, 25-19 win against Rusk and a narrow 16-25, 26-24, 25-23 victory against Pleasant Grove in a winner's bracket semifinal match against Pleasant Grove.

The Lady Buckeyes will host Lindale on Tuesday.

 

Eustace Goes 2-1 At Lady Bulldog Tournament

EUSTACE -- The Lady Bulldogs played for the title of their own tournament and came up just short against Kerens, a 25-16, 20-25, 25-21 win for the Lady Bobcats.

Eustace defeated Fruitvale, 25-20, 25-23, and Ferris 25-19, 25-20 en route to the game against Kerens.

It was a successful tournament overall for the Lady Bulldogs. Eustace finished the tournament with a 4-2 record.

Abra Roberts and Ashley Purselley aced 13 and 11 serves, respectively.

Makenzie Roberts had 17 kills in the six games and Kasey Lopez recorded 16 kills in the same span.
