Soccer Roundup: Pine Tree Boys Upset Defending Regional Champ + More
LONGVIEW -- Defending Class 4A Region II champion Mount Pleasant went 24 matches without losing until Thursday against Pine Tree.
The Pirates took Mount Pleasant to overtime before each team scored a goal, leading to a 2-2 (3-1) shootout victory for PT in a Class 4A Region II area playoff.
Mount Pleasant, which reached last year's state tournament, fell to 23-1-1 with the loss.
Pine Tree plays Lindale or Texas High next week in a 4A Region II sectional playoff at a site and time to be determined.
Kilgore Comes Back to Upend Pittsburg in OT
HALLSVILLE -- Kilgore erased a one-goal second-half deficit to beat Pittsburg 2-1 in overtime in Thursday's Class 4A Region II area playoff at Bobcat Stadium.
Kilgore's Christian Perales scored with 27 minutes remaining in regulation to tie the match 1-1. Alexis Torres gave the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead with his overtime goal, which was enough to propel Kilgore to the victory.
Kilgore plays John Tyler -- a 5-0 winner Thursday against Pleasant Grove -- in next week's sectional round.

Mabank Rolls Past Mount Pleasant
LONGVIEW -- Mabank scored early and often to put away Mount Pleasant 4-0 in a Class 4A Region II area playoff at Pine Tree Stadium.
Mabank scored four times in the first half to build the early lead and cruise to the win. The Lady Panthers play Friday's Hallsville vs. Texas High winner next week in a 4A Region II sectional playoff.
