Tournament season for East Texas volleyball teams continued Thursday with the commencement of the Tyler Invitational and Hughes Springs Tournament. Whitehouse, Pine Tree, Paris North Lamar and Mabank won their respective pools in Tyler. Redwater, Liberty-Eylau, Queen City and host Hughes Springs came out on top in pool play at the Hughes Springs Tournament.

While some schools were thrown into brutal new districts, featuring four and even five playoff teams from the previous year, both Paul Pewitt and Hughes Springs have to feel pretty good about their new home.

As expected, Wednesday's National Signing Day was a busy time in East Texas.

A history-making season for Waskom ended in some of its league's top awards with the release of the 9-2A Division II all-district football team as voted by coaches.

Linden-Kildare's Shardai Love and Queen City's Kelsie Benson shared Most Valuable Player honors on the 16-2A all-district volleyball team, which was voted on by the league's coaches.

TEXARKANA -- Pleasant Grove outscored Linden-Kildare by 17 points in the first quarter and coasted from there to take a 60-39 girls basketball home win Tuesday night.

DIANA -- Garrett Barton got only 11 carries, but he averaged almost 20 yards per attempt and scored three touchdowns in a 41-13 New Diana win against Linden-Kildare in a District 9-2A Division II matchup.

LINDEN -- Fredrick Hopkins and Chris Royal each ran for three touchdowns as part of a balanced rushing attack that carried No. 10 Hughes Springs to a 47-0 win over Linden-Kildare on Friday night.
