TCU + Texas A&M Offer West Rusk’s Tyree Wilson
One of the most recruited East Texas prospects who has yet to verbally commit added his two highest-profile Division I FBS scholarship offers on Tuesday.
West Rusk 2018 linebacker Tyree Wilson announced via Twitter that TCU and Texas A&M have offered.
The former Washington State commit, who re-opened his recruitment last week, has now received three offers from schools in the Power 5 Conferences this week. Mississippi State offered Wilson on Sunday.
Wilson, who has 15 total FBS opportunities, also holds prominent offers from Houston, Kansas, Oklahoma State, and SMU.
In spite of fierce competition with his teammates at the middle level of the defense, as has been the case at West Rusk in recent seasons, Wilson was able to record 74 total tackles through his junior year. Thirteen tackles went for loss in an 11-game season that ended with a first-round appearance in the Class 3A Division II state playoffs.
TCU has targeted six East Texans in the 2018 class, including Wilson. The Frogs have also offered Van offensive lineman Kris Dike, Marshall offensive lineman and LSU commit Chasen Hines, Carthage running back and Texas pledge Keaontay Ingram, Arp safety and Texas commit DeMarvion Overshown, and Kilgore receiver Jonathan Shepherd.
The Horned Frogs dropped to a 6-6 regular season record last season from an 11-2 record in 2015, but its finish was good enough for a Liberty Bowl appearance, albeit a loss to Georgia. TCU has an active bowl streak of three seasons and has reached a bowl game 15 times in head coach Gary Patterson’s 17 years.
Patterson owns a coaching record of 149-52 with the Horned Frogs.
Texas A&M is hoping to get back some of the regional recruiting momentum it lost in the past cycle. Head coach Kevin Sumlin and his staff landed four prospects in 2015 and pulled in zero when the 2016 class became eligible to sign earlier this month.
It was a half-and-half 2016 campaign for Texas A&M on the field. The team rose as high as sixth in the AP Poll with a 6-0 start, but it lost four of its final six regular season games and then got upset by Kansas State in the Texas Bowl.
There are a lot of familiar faces within the program if Wilson ultimately opts to play for the Aggies. More than a dozen former players from the ETSN.fm coverage region are on the roster.
Wilson will first become eligible to sign with any program that offers him in December.
