It gets real for defending Class 3A Division II state champion Waskom right out of the gate in league play.

As ETSN.fm counts down the top 25 football games of 2015, Waskom at Elysian Fields is right in the middle as the No. 13 best game to see all season. The Sept. 25 meeting inside Jacket Stadium could be for all the marbles in District 8-3A Division II.

It's not just a game circled by East Texans. The state's collective media has this one highlighted.

Despite the Wildcats' amazing 2014 season, the losses of Kevin Johnson and June Bug Johnson have people thinking a little less about the team in 2015. Both Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazine and TheOldCoach.com's Friday Night Football magazine project the Yellowjackets to take the district this season.

That could change this particular evening.

Elysian Fields brings back 14 starters from its area round playoff team.

But Waskom has a little more in the old tank as well. Seniors Chan Amie and Mike Reason give their fans a reason to smile as two-way starters. Both were selected as all-state linebackers last year, and Amie won the title game's Defensive Most Valuable Player Award.

Those guys will be tested by a stable of Yellowjackets running backs headlined by 6-foot-3 and 217-pound senior runner Kyree Ratliffe.

Both sides should be ready to go and near full health. They'll enjoy an open week ahead of the game.

Elysian Fields opens its season with Class 3A Division I runner-up Mineola and then moves on to play Jefferson and West Sabine.

Waskom has a tough opening game against a larger Center team from Class 4A Division II and closes non-district play with Paul Pewitt and Hughes Springs in consecutive weeks.

There's a tone to set Sept. 25. Don't miss it.
