The Newton Eagles will certainly be tested by the time the competitive District 10-3A Division I action begins.

Several elite programs dot Newton's non-district schedule, including its Week 2 opponent, Silsbee.

This inter-class showdown checks in at No. 12 on ETSN.fm's list of the top 25 games of 2016.

Newton, which reached the Class 3A Division II regional semifinals a season ago, has big plans this season with 16 returning starters. Meanwhile, Silsbee is fresh off its appearance in the 4A Division I state quarterfinals.

The Eagles will be led by senior quarterback Brock Barbay, senior running back Broderick Spikes, and senior receiver Kirkland Foster on the offensive side of the ball, while linebacker Blake Kelly and defensive lineman Devian Kennebrew highlight the Newton defense.

Silsbee, which finished 11-3 last season, brings back just eight starters, but the four returning on offense -- running back Adonis Thomas, and receivers Kolten Mackey, Kalon Barnes and Tre' Lowe -- are special.
