CONROE -- Trey Cumbie passed for three touchdowns, Steven Sowell ran for 177 yards and a touchdown and Lufkin concluded the regular season with a 42-14 rout of Conroe on Friday night.

The Lufkin (5-5, 4-2 in District 14-5A) win was its fourth consecutive leading into the playoffs where the Panthers will face Humble Atascocita (9-1) at 2 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 16) in a 5A Division II Region II bi-district matchup from Conroe's Morehead Stadium.

Cumbie completed 8 of 15 attempts for 258 yards and three touchdowns to three different receivers -- Terry Mark (2 catches, 90 yards), Robert Howard (2-86) and Sowell, who in addition to his big game on the ground, caught two passes for 86 yards. Cumbie also ran for two touchdowns.

Lufkin jumped out to a 14-0 first-quarter lead and put the game away by outscoring Conroe (4-6, 1-5) 21-0 in the second for a 35-7 halftime lead. Sowell had a 46-yard scoring reception, Cumbie ran one in from two yards out and Mark hauled in a 79-yard touchdown in the Panthers' big second quarter.

Devondric Smith led Conroe with 27 carries for 172 yards and two touchdowns.
