LONGVIEW -- Marshall needed every run, but it got the job done against Longview to get a needed District 15-5A win by a score of 5-4.

The Mavericks (8-3, 1-2) went up 5-1 at the midway mark of the fourth inning. The Lobos (2-6-1) rallied with a run in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.

Marshall relief pitcher Landon Johnson got the save in the bottom of the seventh with a perfect inning.

Starting pitcher DeAndre McAfee earned the win. He tossed 10 strikeouts and allowed seven hits through six innings of work.

Catcher Cameron Haller led the Mavericks at the plate with a 2-for-4 night.

Dezmond Chumley batted 2-for-2 for Longview and recorded a game-best two RBIs.

Marshall will visit Greenville at 7 p.m. Friday. Longview also will be on the road simultaneously at Texas High.

 

Elkhart Wins, 20-1

ELKHART -- The Elks cruised to a 20-1 win against Palestine Westwood in District 21-3A action.

Tanner Tutt earned the win for Elkhart. He recorded 10 strikeouts in the five-inning victory.

The Elks advanced their record to 10-7 overall and 2-1 in league play. They will visit New Waverly today at 6 p.m. to make up a game rained out last week.

Westwood moves on to host Buffalo.

 

Beckville Puts Up Big Numbers

BECKVILLE -- The 13th-ranked Beckville Bearcats rolled to a 30-1 rout of Mount Enterprise on Tuesday night in District 23-2A action.

Three pitchers -- Cal Walton, Ben Bridges, and Trey Lindsey -- combined on the five-hitting no-hitter.

Beckville exploded from the very beginning, sending 22 batters to the plate in a 17-run first inning that included 11 Bearcats hits and four walks.

Josh Bounds led Beckville (9-0, 4-0) at the plate, going 4-for-5 with a triple, doubles, six RBIs, and three runs scored. Bridges was 2-for-4 with two walks and five RBIs, while Walton went 3-for-3 with two RBIs.

Brandt Harris finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs, Ethan Harris was 2-for-3 with a double and two , Coeby Dodson was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Lindsey went 2-for-5 with two RBIs.

Beckville's season resumes Friday at Joaquin.

 

Brook Hill Drops League Opener

FRISCO -- The Bullard Brook Hill Guard dropped their TAPPS District 2-4A opener, 3-1 to Frisco Legacy Christian on Tuesday night.

Jace Kuechle led the Guard (3-7, 0-1) in defeat by going 3-for-3 with the team's only run scored. Chase Moore added 2-for-4 performance at the plate and stole a base. Chase Moore took the loss, allowing three runs on four hits with four strikeouts and six walks in six innings pitched.

These two teams meet again at Brook Hill on Friday night.
