ATHENS -- The No. 23 Athens Hornets improved to 8-0 on the season with a 80-59 victory over Jacksonville on Tuesday night.

The win was Athens' fourth of the year against a Class 4A team.

Ryan Jefferson led the way for Athens with 29 points, 11 rebounds and five steals. Anthony Sanders added 20 points, while Courtland Lyons finished with 18 points, six assists and four steals.

Claude Franklin paced Jacksonville (6-3) with 12 points, while Daytron Thompson finished with 10.

Athens' season continues this weekend at the Wills Point Tournament, which runs from Thursday-Saturday. Jacksonville, meanwhile, competes in the Fairfield Tournament this weekend.

Marshall Defeats Kilgore

KILGORE -- The Marshall Mavericks continued their impressive start to the season with a 69-58 victory over Kilgore on Tuesday night.

Tiandre Jackson-Young led Marshall (10-1) with 21 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks. Jay McKnight added 16 points, Shimar Jones scored 13 and Chris Brown finished with seven assists.

Trey Conrod's 19 points led Kilgore.

Marshall returns to action next Tuesday at Jacksonville.

Lindale Overcomes Pine Tree

LINDALE -- The Lindale Eagles earned a 40-28 victory over Pine Tree on Tuesday night.

Court Brown, Jordan Gray and Mason Terry each had eight points to lead Lindale (6-3), which build a 36-9 lead through three quarters.

Dalvin Manns led Pine Tree with 11 points.

Lindale competes at the Forney ISD Tournament this weekend, while Pine Tree competes at Brownsboro's Great East Texas Shootout, which runs from Thursday-Saturday.

Whitehouse Defeats Australian Squad

WHITEHOUSE -- The Whitehouse Wildcats remained unbeaten on the season with a 68-48 win over South Australia Country Academy on Tuesday.

Patrick Mahomes led Whitehouse (8-0) with 26 points. Brady Hill added eight points, while Spencer Shaw and Jake Parker each finished with seven.

Whitehouse is back in action this weekend at the Burkburnett Tournament.

No. 9 Martin's Mill Routs Van

MARTIN'S MILL -- The ninth-ranked Martin's Mill Mustangs recorded a 63-38 win over Van on Tuesday night.

Davis Moore led Martin's Mill (9-2) with 18 points, which included four 3-pointers. Logan Jenkins knocked down three 3's and finished with 15 points.

Martin's Mill returns to action Friday at home against Palmer, while Van participates in Brownsboro's Great East Texas Shootout, which runs Thursday-Saturday.

Spring Hill Knocks Off No. 6 Bullard

LONGVIEW -- The Spring Hill Lady Panthers earned a 50-38 upset win over sixth-ranked Bullard in District 16-3A action on Tuesday.

Spring Hill (5-5, 1-0) was led by Jacey Fleet's 15 points. Madison Martin added 13 points, while Ann Hollas finished with 12.

Bullard (13-3, 1-1) was sparked in defeat by Lexi Kirgan, who finished with 14 points. Lexi Abercrombie added 13 in the losing effort.

Spring Hill returns to the court this weekend at the Edgewood Tournament, while Bullard competes in Brownsboro's Great East Texas Shootout this Thursday-Saturday.

No. 23 Canton Edges Palestine

CANTON -- The 23rd-ranked Canton Eaglettes picked up a 49-43 win over Palestine on Tuesday night.

Kassidy Wilkerson led Canton (9-1) with 16 points, while Courtney Roberts finished with 10.

Marsha Wilson paced Palestine with 18 points, while Kierra Warren added 17.

Canton will take part in Brownsboro's Great East Texas Shootout this weekend, while Palestine travels to Elkhart on Friday.

No. 15 Winona Defeats Troup in 18-2A Opener

TROUP -- The 15th-ranked Winona Lady Wildcats earned a 61-52 win over Troup on Tuesday in the District 18-2A opener for both teams.

Jamece Gulley led Winona (12-0, 1-0) with 19 points, six steals and two assists. Kawaii Gordon added 13 points, 18 rebounds, four assists and four steals, Darrisha Crawford contributed nine points, eight boards and five steals, Shay Virgil had nine points and six rebounds, while Bailey Daniels knocked down three 3-pointers to finish with nine points.

Winona is back in action Friday at home against Harmony, while Troup travels to Sabine also on Friday.

Mineola Too Much For Yantis

MINEOLA -- The Mineola Lady Jackets earned a 50-36 victory over Yantis on Tuesday night.

Sister Green's 12 points keyed the Mineola (6-6) victory. Jordan Dawson and Kelsey Green added 11 points apiece.

Mineola and Yanits return to action this weekend at the Edgewood Tourney.

Second-Ranked Martin's Mill Takes District Opener

MARTIN'S MILL -- The second-ranked Martin's Mill Lady Mustangs took a 73-30 win over Harleton on Tuesday in their District 17-A Division I opener.

Cheyenne Brown finished with 36 points, including a 16-of-17 performance from the free-throw line, to lead Martin's Mill (11-1, 1-0). Hailey Celsur added 15 points, which included three 3-pointers.

Martin's Mill competes at Brownsboro's Great East Texas Shootout this weekend.

Beckville Notches Win in League Opener

OVERTON -- Beckville earned a 46-39 win over Overton in their District 17-A Division I opener on Tuesday.

Devin Woodall sparked Beckville (4-7, 1-0) with 15 points, two rebounds, two assists and three steals. Kimber Wesner added 10 points and four boards.

Overton was led by Heather Raney, who poured in a game-high 17 points. Laci Dorsey added 15 points in the losing effort.

Gary Takes Down Ore City

GARY -- Gary scored a 53-40 win over Ore City on Tuesday.

Amber Gage led Gary with 20 points, which included four 3-pointers. Ryley Beckham added 13 points, while Meagan Sewell finished with nine points on three 3-point baskets.

Gary hosts its own tournament this weekend, while Ore City hosts White Oak on Friday in its District 17-2A opener.
