BECKVILLE -- Kinley Pepper played a role in 57 Beckville points toward the Ladycats' come-from-behind, 24-26, 25-20, 21-25, 25-23, 15-7 win Tuesday against Nacogdoches Central Heights in both teams' season-opening game.

Pepper recorded 53 assists and added four kills of her own in the five-set win.

Kinley Blair scored 20 points in the match on 18 kills and two blocks. Riley Seegers added 12 kills and one block to round out Ladycats in double digits, and three other players got on the score sheet for the winning side.

Payton Jones and Hannah Humphires led the way defensively with seven blocks apiece.

Beckville (1-0) will be back in action Thursday at 4 p.m. against Pine Tree in the Longview Tournament.

Central Heights (0-1) also will play its next set of games Thursday at Woodville's tournament.

 

Quitman Sweeps New Diana

DIANA -- Cammie Hicks picked up where she let off as a sophomore with 22 assists, seven digs and one ace in Quitman's 26-24, 25-11, 25-18 sweep of New Diana.

Kaci Raley, another junior standout on the Lady Bulldogs' roster, led the team in scoring with 15 points. She recorded 14 kills and one block in the match.

Quitman (1-0) will next play in the Van Tournament.

New Diana (0-1) will face Nacogdoches Central Heights in its next game Friday.

 

Rains Rolls Grand Saline

GRAND SALINE -- Emory Rains kept Grand Saline off-balance with three players achieving 10 digs or more in Tuesday's 25-13, 25-11, 25-9 road win.

Kenna Kellam's 12 digs led Rains. Shelbi Sheppard and Summer Nerkowski recorded 10 digs apiece.

Sheppard put up 29 assists in the three-set match and Charlotte Bradshaw converted most of them toward a team-best 17 kills.

The Lady Cats (1-0) will play Texas High in Rowlett on Thursday ahead of participating in this weekend's Garland I.S.D. Tournament.

Grand Saline (0-1) will travel to Farmersville on Friday.

 

Carson + Pendergrass Lead Alba-Golden Past Union Grove

ALBA -- Ginny Carson and Gracie Pendergrass both recorded 12 kills in Alba-Golden's three-set sweep of Union Grove, 25-15, 25-13, 25-14.

With an additional three aces, Pendergrass led the team in scoring with 15 total points.

Briana Weissert set up 29 of the Lady Panthers' points on assists.

Alba-Golden (1-0) will be back in action Friday at the Tyler Invitational against Elkhart, Longview and Sulphur Springs in pool play.

Union Grove (0-1) has two matches scheduled for Thursday. It will face Carlisle and Elysian Fields during the day.

 

Carlisle Beats Longview Christian Heritage School In Three Sets

PRICE -- Cheyenne Vannier's 18 assists helped make quick work of Longview Christian Heritage School in a 25-19, 25-16, 25-20 win Tuesday.

Aubrey Hart led Carlisle (1-0) in points with 10. She scored on five kills and five blocks.

Heather Craig stood out defensively with 20 digs in the three-set contest.

Thursday, Carlisle will face Union Grove for its next game.
