WASKOM -- Waskom built a three-score lead early, fell behind, then scored 43 of the game's final 50 points in a 64-33 home victory against New Diana on Friday night.

The win pushed the Wildcats to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in District 9-2A Division II. The loss was New Diana's first of the season (3-1, 0-1).

Waskom's JuneBug Johnson threw a first-half 34-yard touchdown pass to Eric Stephens and scored on a second-half 11-yard run. Chan Amie returned a punt 79 yards for a touchdown during the Wildcats' 21-0 start, then added a short touchdown run during Waskom's game-closing run.

Waskom's Kevin Johnson, Lucas Norton, and Dillon Benton each ran for touchdowns. Benton's run covered 56 to cap the Wildcats' high-scoring night.

Waskom, which totaled 452 yards, did a good job containing New Diana's high-powered running game, limiting the Eagles to 244 yards. K.J. Jeffery led New Diana with 72 yards and a touchdown on nine carries, while teammate Garrett Barton added 63 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries. Brandon Wesley ran for a score.

New Diana's Tim Perry racked up 12 tackles. DeQuailyn Hollins had 11 tackles and forced a fumble. Cameron Taylor finished with six tackles, one forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries, while Skylar Simpson recovered two fumbles.

Waskom overcame six lost fumbles in the 31-point victory.

New Diana hosts Hughes Springs next Friday, while Waskom visits Paul Pewitt.
