ROYSE CITY -- Carsen Cook threw three touchdowns and Wylie's defense forced six Mount Pleasant turnovers as the Pirates eliminated the Tigers from the Class 4A Division II playoffs with a 45-21 bi-district win Friday night.

Cook threw all of his touchdown passes in a second half that saw Wylie outscore the potent Mount Pleasant offense 25-7.

Up next for Wylie (5-6) is second-ranked John Tyler (10-1), a team the Pirates shocked, 20-16, in the 2010 Region II championship game.

Cook completed 20 of 27 passes and hit three different receivers for touchdowns. Touchdown runs by Charles Okpoko and Dontae Slay helped Wylie race out to a 20-0 lead on the Tigers, who averaged nearly 49 points per game in the regular season.

Mount Pleasant (8-3) quarterback Monty James, who threw 39 touchdowns in the regular season, was held without a passing score and threw two interceptions in the loss. Superstar receiver K.D. Cannon, whose 96 catches, 1,516 yards and 25 touchdowns led all receiving categories among East Texas teams in the regular season, caught eight passes for 81 yards.

James scored twice on the ground, with both touchdowns coming in the second quarter to cut Wylie's lead to 20-14 at the half.

Terrance Taylor scored on a 1-yard run in the third quarter to cut Wylie's lead to 35-21, but the Pirates held Mount Pleasant to no points in the final 21:14 of the game.
