Lagaryonn Carson may have just wrapped up his sophomore year of high school less than a month ago, but the Liberty-Eylau 2017 defensive end is steadily racking up the scholarship offers.

Carson (6-5, 261) traveled north to Fayetteville, Ark., for a camp hosted by Arkansas on Saturday, and shortly thereafter, the Razorbacks became the ninth program to enter the sweepstakes for the Leopards' standout.

The news was confirmed to ETSN.fm by the Liberty-Eylau coaching staff.

Carson leads East Texas' 2017 class with nine Division I FBS offers. In addition to Arkansas, he holds offers from Alabama, Baylor, North Texas, Oklahoma, SMU, Tennessee, Texas, and Texas A&M.

Arkansas' offer to Carson is the Razorbacks' first to a member of East Texas' incoming junior recruiting cycle.

The Razorbacks compete in the ultra-competitive SEC West Division, which also features Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, and Texas A&M. Arkansas is coming off a 7-6 campaign in 2014, which ended with a 31-7 rout of Texas in the Texas Bowl on Dec. 29.

Bret Bielema will be entering his third season as Arkansas' head coach. The Hogs currently have three East Texans on their roster -- defensive back D.J. Dean (Newton), receiver Eric Hawkins (Longview), and tight end Alex Voelzke (Spring Hill).

Carson’s size and strength make him a strong candidate for major college football. The bloodlines don’t hurt, either. He is cousins with former Liberty-Eylau stars Tra Carson (Texas A&M running back) and Davion Hall (Baylor receiver).

As a sophomore, Carson record 94 tackles and five sacks, helping a youthful Leopards team reach the state quarterfinal round for the first time since L-E’s 2006 state championship run.

Expectations will be high for the Leoaprds this season with the return of players like Carson, quarterback/athlete Ke’Mon Freeman, running back Lamont Byrd, receiver Thurman Morbley, and linebackers DeMarcus Pegue and Andre Wiley, Jr.

Liberty-Eylau opens the season Aug. 28 against defending Class 4A Division II state champion Gilmer.
