Carthage Softball Takes Game 1 Against Huntington

CONROE -- Carthage defeated Huntington, 8-5, in Game 1 of its Class 4A regional quarterfinal series Thursday at the Scrap Yard in Conroe.

Kacey Maines led the way with a 2-for-3 night, including 3 RBIs and a triple. Pitcher Samantha Clakley also batted 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Clakley struck out eight Huntington batters in the circle while allowing four hits and six walks.

Carthage and Huntington will play out the remainder of their series Saturday just north of College Station at Mumford High School. Game 2 will begin at 1 p.m. and a potential third game would begin 30 minutes afterward.
