John Tyler's presence inside last season helped the school garner a top 10 ranking in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches' 5A poll, a share of the District 16-5A title with a similarly highly ranked Lufkin squad and a second-round trip into the playoffs.

Not much should change since the primary two Lady Lions forwards will return this fall. However, this go-around, college names are attached.

John Tyler Forward Destini Whitehead Picks Up First Offer From North Texas

Local girls basketball followers figured Destini Whitehead was in for big things even before she won District 16-5A's Offensive Most Valuable Player Award as just a sophomore last season.

Big things have started to arrive.

North Texas offered the 5-foot-10 junior forward a college basketball opportunity Sunday. John Tyler athletics coordinator and head football coach Ricklan Holmes announced Whitehead's first-ever Division I college invitation.
