Welcome to the first look at our ETSN 25, the East Texas Sports Network's top 25 football recruits in the 2013 class.

We plan to update this list periodically throughout the season to reflect players' recruiting activity, so keep your eyes peeled for updated versions of the ETSN 25 during the fall and winter. Also, if you know of an athlete -- in any sport -- being recruited, let our resident recruiting writer Gabe Brooks know about it by emailing him: gabebrooks@etsn.fm.

Without further adieu, let's get to the No. 25 player on our preseason ETSN 25, Gilmer cornerback Trey Washington.

25.Trey Washington

  • Cornerback
  • Gilmer
  • 6-1, 170
  • committed to SMU

SMU has invaded East Texas in recent months, scouring the region for talent. Trey Washington is among the players the Mustangs hope can establish them as a recruiting force in the area.

The Gilmer cornerback had 25 tackles and two interceptions during his junior season as part of a Buckeye defense that yielded a respectable 20.6 points per game in 2011. Washington’s coverage abilities helped his teammates get more opportunities to make plays. Safety Tanner Barr picked off 10 passes as a sophomore to rank him among the state’s leaders.

While Washington appears a solid commitment to SMU, he could garner more recruiting interest as the season progresses. Large-framed, rangy defensive backs aren’t easy to find.
