The last time Highway 271 rivals Gladewater and Gilmer met was in the third round of the Class 4A Division II playoffs in 2014 on the day after Thanksgiving.

What transpired that night at Longview's Lobo Stadium will forever be a part of East Texas lore, as Gilmer scored with nine seconds remaining for a thrilling 41-35 victory in front of an overflow crowd estimated at 15,000 fans.

Reunited in the same district for the first time since 2013, the Bears and Buckeyes will renew acquaintances this Friday night in Gilmer in the ETSN.fm/Dairy Queen Game of the Week.

Both teams come into the game having performed up to high expectations.

Gladewater is 5-0 on the season, having used a suffocating defense to hold opponents to less than 12 points per game.

The lone blemish for Gilmer (5-1) was a 55-37 defeat at traditional power Carthage on Sept. 17, but aside from that, the Buckeyes have dominated the opposition by outscoring teams by an average margin of 24.4 points in wins.
