GILMER -- It took Jacksonville and Gilmer the full 48 minutes to settle their game Friday night, as Gilmer’s 34-33 win wasn’t nailed down until Jacksonville missed a field goal as time expired.

The Buckeyes got to within six points when quarterback Tanner Barr threw a six-yard slant pass to Desmond Pollard, and the missed extra point made it 33-27. It was one of Barr's five touchdown passes on the night.

The teams traded possessions again, but a misplayed punt attempt by Jacksonville led to the game’s final score two plays later, when Barr threw a 6-yard score to Chase Tate with 1:19 remaining for a 34-33 lead.

After a short kickoff, Jacksonville was able to get close enough for a field goal attempt as time expired, but Ryan Travis’ try from 47 yards went wide left.

With the win, Gilmer goes to 2-1 on the season, while Jacksonville falls to 1-2.

The first quarter was scoreless until late, when Jacksonville quarterback DD Franklin broke out from his own 9-yard line for an 84 yard run. The Indians would score on a Franklin pass to Cory Holman for a 6-0 lead, as the extra point was blocked.

In the second quarter, Jacksonville got a 70-yard catch from Darrell Minifee to take the ball down to the 9-yard line. Gilmer’s defense held, however, on a fourth-and-goal from the 3-yard line. On the next play, Minifee picked off Gilmer’s Tanner Barr. After a penalty on the runback, Jacksonville scored on the next play on an 11-yard run from Franklin for a 12-0 lead.

Gilmer responded with a nine play, 56-yard drive by with a 17-yard touchdown pass from Barr to Josh Walker.

Jacksonville wasn’t done in the first half, though, and uncorked a seven-play, 60-yard drive. With two minutes left in the half, Franklin hit Bryson Heywood out of the backfield for a score, and a 19-7 halftime lead. The Indians scored again on the first possession of the third quarter, on a 44-yard run from Bryson Heywood where he went untouched for a 26-7.

Gilmer struck back almost immediately, as less than a minute later Barr completed a 38-yard touchdown pass to Trey Washington, making it 26-14. The two teams traded interceptions on their next possessions, with DD Franklin taking his pick back 25 yards for a score. Gilmer countered with a 45-yard touchdown from Barr to Walker, and the third quarter ended at 33-21, Jacksonville.
