MESQUITE – Jermaine Givens and the Mesquite Horn Jaguars put on a show Friday night at E.H. Hanby Stadium.

Longview, meanwhile, opened District 11-6A action with a dud.

Givens accounted for four touchdowns as Mesquite Horn opened district action with a 52-34 romp over Longview, handing the Lobos their first loss of the season.

While Givens, who rushed for three scores and passed for another, and the Jaguars (3-1, 1-0) fired at will, the Lobos misfired to the tune of six total turnovers, three fumbles and three interceptions.

Maureese Wren was on the end of 202 of 335 passing yards from Givens, who tacked on 107 more one the ground with scoring scampers of 50, 10 and seven yards. Wren hauled in a 66-yard touchdown pass, one of 12 targets.

Longview’s Keilyn Williams and Jaquan Edwards had Longview’s two rushing touchdowns on runs of five and one yards, respectively. Williams led the Lobo rushing attack with 44 total yards.

Sophomore quarterback Haynes King rolled up 252 yards through the air, including three second-half touchdowns. Williams had a 44-yard scoring catch, Jacob Johnson hauled in one from seven yards and Jaylin Brown had a six-yard score.

After Longview took a 13-7 lead late in the first quarter, Horn posted 38 unanswered points to close out a first have that included five turnovers for the Lobos with a 45-13 lead.

Longview got to 45-26 late in the third quarter.

Longview hosts Tyler Lee at Lobo Stadium on Friday.
