Josh Thompson Adds Offers From Missouri + Oklahoma State

Josh Thompson has more than hit the tipping point.

Major programs are following in the footsteps of major programs to offer the junior Nacogdoches cornerback. He is the leading FBS scholarship holder within East Texas despite having zero offers in mid March.

Missouri and Oklahoma State joined the chase Thursday morning. Thompson announced his latest offers, his 20th and 21st FBS options, through his personal Twitter account.

Oklahoma State is the fifth Big 12 Conference candidate to come after the corner. Thompson (6-0, 182) had zero Big 12 opportunities before Monday.

Missouri is the first school from the Southeastern Conference to show hard interest.

Thompson won Defensive Most Valuable Player at the ETSN.fm + APEC Football Recruiting Combine on Sunday. Highlights from the event included a 4.48-second, laser-time 40-yard dash and a 36-inch vertical jump.

He recorded nine pass breakups, intercepted a pass and recorded 33 tackles through Nacogdoches’ 10 games. He also caught 10 passes for 152 yards as a receiver.

Nacogodches finished its year in a three-team tie for the fourth and final spot out of District 16-5A with Lindale and Corsicana. Lindale advanced to the playoffs by nature of its head-to-head point differential against Nacogdoches and Corsicana.

Missouri, the first program of the day to reach out to Thompson, posted a 5-7 record in 2015. Head coach Gary Pinkel resigned after the season to address health issues.

Longtime defensive coordinator Barry Odom -- a former Missouri linebacker in the late 1990s -- was appointed to take over a program that reached SEC championship games in 2013 and 2014. All of Odom's college coaching experience came under Pinkel,

Odom began his coaching career with two years as an assistant at Ada High School in Oklahoma. He became head coach at Rock Bridge High School in Columbia, Mo., for the 2001 and 2002 seasons before joining Missouri's staff.

Oklahoma State enjoyed a 10-2 regular season and tied for second in the final Big 12 standings last year. The campaign ended with a loss to Mississippi in the Sugar Bowl.

The Cowboys program has one conference championship win and has finished within the top 10 twice under head coach Mike Gundy through the leader's 11 seasons in Stillwater, Okla.

Six of Gundy's past eight teams finished seasons ranked.

Thompson, like all high school football prospects currently in their junior year, will become eligible to sign with any program that offers him in February.
