LSU Gives Newton’s Roney Elam His First Division I FBS Offer

Newton 2015 athlete Roney Elam has received an offer from LSU, the star quarterback/defensive back confirmed to ETSN.fm on Wednesday evening.

Elam (6-2, 175) is the third Newton player to receive an FBS offer in the last three years, joining former Newton standouts D.J. Dean, a 2013 Arkansas signee, and Kevin Shorter, who signed with Texas earlier this month as part of the 2014 class.

LSU was the first Division I FBS offer for Elam, who also holds offers from FCS programs McNeese State and Lamar.

Elam played quarterback and safety for Newton last fall, earning ETSN.fm Super Team honorable mention honors at athlete. He passed for 939 yards and 11 touchdowns, ran for 437 yards and five scores and made 23 tackles and hauled in five interceptions and forced a fumble on defense.

The Newton star said LSU is interesting in him at both cornerback and safety. Elam joins Gladewater defensive tackle Daylon Mack and Sulphur Spring safety Larry Pryor -- both Texas A&M commits -- as East Texans with LSU offers in the 2015 class.
