Marshall Reassigns Football Coach Alex Richters
Second-year Marshall head football coach Alex Richters has been reassigned, according to Superintendent Marc Smith.
Marshall finished the 2012 season 1-9 overall and 1-4 in District 14-4A play. The Mavericks were 2-8 in 2011, when they went 1-6 in district play in Richters’ first year as head coach.
Richters replaced Thed Harris, who led Marshall to a 28-19 record in four seasons, all of which ended in playoff appearances. Harris led Marshall to a 9-4 record and a Class 4A Division I Region II semifinal in 2009.
The 2011-12 seasons marked the first time Marshall has failed to win more than three games combined since 1957-58, when the Mavs went a combined 3-14-2.
Marshall’s lone win of the 2012 season came in a 49-29 victory against Pine Tree on Oct. 26. That win allowed the Mavs to finish fifth ahead of the Pirates and stay out of the 14-4A cellar.
