MOUNT PLEASANT — Quarterback Cullen Grubbs accounted for four touchdowns and threw for 245 yards to lead Mount Pleasant to a 34-20 win against Liberty-Eylau on Friday night.

Grubbs completed 19 of 34 passes, including six for 59 yards and a first-quarter touchdown to Baylor-bound receiver K.D. Cannon. Running back T.L. Taylor followed up last week’s 258-yard, three-touchdown performance with a 21-carry, 150-yard effort against Liberty-Eylau.

Grubbs’ second touchdown run of the game gave Mount Pleasant a 34-14 lead to seal the game with 5:27 remaining.

Liberty-Eylau quarterback Rashaan Donelson had a career night throwing the ball. He completed 16 of 31 passes for 339 yards for two touchdowns, and two interceptions. Donelson threw a 12-yard touchdown strike to Corey Braxton early in the third quarter after Mount Pleasant led 15-0 at halftime, then hit Keith Wynkoop for a 75-yard touchdown with 5:14 remaining to leave the final score 34-20.

Liberty-Eylau standout Davion Hall, who is also committed to Baylor, caught two passes for 27 yards, but left the game in the third quarter with an apparent leg injury and did not return.

Following L-E’s Donelson-to-Braxton strike, Mount Pleasant regained momentum when linebacker Joshua Scoggin scooped and scored from 68 yards for a 21-6 lead five minutes into the third quarter. Mount Pleasant’s Andrew Flanagan caught four passes for 64 yards, while Jaquille Rodgers’ one catch — a 73-yard touchdown — gave the Tigers a 28-6 lead late in the third quarter.

Liberty-Eylau’s Wynkoop caught four passes for game-high 133 yards, while Michael Carr caught four passes for 60 yards.

Mount Pleasant visits Terrell next week. Texas High hosts Liberty-Eylau.
