North Texas Extends Offer to Longview’s Broderick Washington

Longview's Broderick Washington is beginning to attract significant attention in the recruiting world, and North Texas became the latest Division I FBS program to offer the Lobos' 2015 offensive lineman.

The Mean Green offer, Washington's sixth overall invitation, was confirmed to ETSN.fm by Longview head coach John King on Wednesday.

Washington (6-3, 285), who will anchor a perennially dominant front line for Longview this fall, also holds offers from Arkansas State, Houston, New Mexico, ULL and UTSA.

It was a busy day for North Texas, which also offered Canton 2015 defensive end Samuel Miller on Wednesday. In all, the Mean Green have five offers out to incoming East Texas seniors -- Washington, Miller, John Tyler wide receiver and UNT commit Rodney Bendy, Whitehouse defensive back Nate Brooks and Lufkin offensive lineman Erik McCoy.

The Mean Green, who signed five East Texans in the 2014 class, have also offered Frankston 2016 receiver Kendrick Rogers.

The UNT program, which began competing in Conference USA last fall after a long run in the Sun Belt, appears to be on an upswing after a breakthrough 2013 season. North Texas went 9-4 last year and reached its first bowl game since 2004.

Washington is a holdover for a Longview team that must replace several key contributors from last season's offense, including receiver and Texas signee Dorian Leonard.

Longview, which won its ninth district title in 10 years a season ago, does return running back and Baylor pledge JaMycal Hasty as well as quarterback Dezmond Chumley, who passed for more than 2,200 yards and 33 touchdowns.

The Lobos will compete in the new District 15-5A this fall along with Greenville, Hallsville, Marshall, Mount Pleasant, Pine Tree, Sulphur Springs and Texas High.
