One Childhood Dream Fulfilled Despite Van’s 7-3 Championship Loss

AUSTIN -- It had to at least tie for the most bittersweet high school graduation of all-time.

Four Van seniors were thrust into graduation ceremonies Saturday right at home plate of Red and Charline McCombs Field after losing to La Grange, 7-3, with the Class 3A Championship on the line.

Harleton’s Comeback Thwarted by Defending Champs in 1A Title Game

AUSTIN -- Harleton looked like a team needing a miracle as it entered the seventh inning of the Class A softball state championship game at Red and Charline McCombs Field.

It got it. But Weimar received a break of its own in the bottom of the seventh inning for a 4-3 championship win.

Randi Carol Phillips’ Perfect Game Sends Harleton to Class A State Finals

AUSTIN -- Whether Harleton wins the thing or not, softball fans state-wide are going to remember where they were between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Wednesday for a long, long time.

Randi Carol Phillips -- a freshman -- pitched a perfect game in the Class A state semifinals. The perfecto put the Ladycats into Thursday's state championship game.

This week's UIL Softball State Tournament in Austin will once again have East Texas flavor as both Van and Harleton will be vying for state championships in our state's capital city.

BULLARD -- Hallsville's dream of returning to the softball state tournament for the first time since 2001 yielded to Ennis' first ever trip to Austin in a 3-1, series clinching loss Friday.

It just didn't come together for the Ladycats in time.
