CARTHAGE -- Going on the road to open district play against the defending state champions is never an easy task.

KILGORE -- If the Kilgore's nightmarish non-district schedule was a high-wire act, then the Bulldogs' district opener Friday night against Palestine was like slipping into some comfortable old shoes. Kilgore's defense held Palestine in check, and the Bulldogs got a pair of good rushing performances from Kevrin Justice and Jaquorious Smith in an impressive 41-6 win. Kilgore is 1-0 in District 9-4A

VAN – The heavyweight prize fight lived up to the billing Friday night in the District 8-4A Division I opener between Athens and Van. In the end, the state-ranked Van Vandals celebrated with a 35-32 win at Mel Fowler Field at Van Memorial Stadium.

TEXARKANA -- Atlanta senior Chase Musgrove passed for three touchdowns and ran for another to lead the Rabbits past the Pleasant Grove Hawks 48-7 at Hawk Field on Friday night.

LONGVIEW — Pine Tree was driving for a tying score with five minutes left, when Texas High safety Dee Jones came up with his fifth interception of the year—second of the game—to propel the Tigers to a 31-21 win over the host Pirates on Friday.

MALAKOFF -- A battle of unbeatens in a District 11-3A, Division I opener proved a big night for Malakoff senior running back Marcus Dowell.

JACKSONVILLE -- Ryan Taylor rushed for 285 yards and a touchdown on 29 carries Friday as the Lindale Eagles spoiled Jacksonville's homecoming with a 38-15 win at the Tomato Bowl.

TYLER -- John Tyler's first three scoring drives stalled, resulting in field goals. The Lions' final possession did as well, but the satisfaction level after the final kick was considerably higher than the previous three.

GLADEWATER — There’s a method to Gladewater’s system, and that’s to be as methodical as possible.

TYLER -- Friday night served to demonstrate, yet again, you can't judge a team by common opponents. Tyler Grace Community managed to not surprise at all yet completely shock TAPPS Division II, District 2 in a 55-14 win against Brook Hill.
