LONGVIEW -- The 2014 Texas Sports Writers Association All-State Volleyball Team was  released on Dec. 24. The team was selected by Texas Sports Writers Association members based on nominations from media members and coaches from around the state. Several players from East Texas earned statewide recognition.

BROWNSBORO -- The Tyler All Saints Trojans captured the championship of the Great East Texas Shootout with an 84-60 rout of host-Brownsboro on Saturday night.

SAN AUGUSTINE -- Jaylon Grant put up 31 points and a cast of Laneville players recorded nice days in other categories for a 72-56 win against San Augustine. Ty Johnson had a game-best 13 rebounds in addition to seven points. He added four blocks and five steals.

MALAKOFF -- A battle of unbeatens in a District 11-3A, Division I opener proved a big night for Malakoff senior running back Marcus Dowell.

East Texas Teams Ranked by TGCA (Aug. 18)

Despite not being comprised of programs steeped in tradition, District 11-3A Division I has the potential to be one of the most talked about in the region in 2014.

The volleyball season officially gets under way Monday, and several East Texas teams are shooting for big goals over the next few months.
