Big Fourth Quarter Sends Tyler Lee to Comeback Win Over Garland In Zach Hall’s Return From Injury
GARLAND -- Tyler Lee scored 23 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to stun Garland, 51-47, Friday night in District 11-6A action at Williams Stadium, in the return of Red Raiders quarterback Zach Hall.
Hall, who injured his knee in a Week 3 win over John Tyler, returned to the field Friday for the first time since, and scored on a 1-yard run with 2:53 remaining to complete the comeback victory.
Lee trailed Garland (4-3, 2-2), 47-28, entering the fourth quarter, but its offense kept plugging away, backed up by an impressive defensive performance over the game's final 12 minutes.
Tavon Wesley began the fourth-quarter surge with a 1-yard touchdown run, which cut the deficit to 47-36 with 11:30 remaining. Tyrec Grayson then scored on a 16-yard run, and Hall found Isjuwan Barker on the two-point conversion, cutting Garland's lead to 47-44 with 8:32 showing the clock.
Garland then traveled deep into Lee territory on the ensuing drive, but lost a fumble at the Red Raiders' 21.
Hall connected with Mason Parker for 32 yards, and Garland was then penalized twice for a total of 30 yards to move Lee to the Owls' 15. And on third-and-goal from the 1, Hall gave Lee the lead for good.
Garland turned it over on downs on the ensuing possession, and Lee ran out the remainder of the clock.
Hall completed 19 of 29 passes for 292 yards and a touchdown, and added 93 yards and a touchdown on 17 rushing attempts.
Wesley led Lee on the ground with 114 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries. Grayson ran for 74 yards and two scores, and caught five passes for 56 yards.
Parker had six receptions for 119 yards, while Barker caught eight passes for 117 yards and a touchdown for Lee, which rolled up 563 yards of offense.
Garland was led by Jacoby Williams, who passed for 328 yards and five touchdowns with one interception. Coree Compton had eight receptions for 149 yards and three scores, while Michael Turman ran for 187 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries.
Lee continues its season next Friday night when it hosts North Garland (3-4, 1-3).
