MESQUITE — Mesquite Horn grabbed the final playoff spot in District 11-6A with a 55-41 win over Tyler Lee on Friday night at E.H. Hanby Stadium.

It was the Jermaine Givens show for the Jaguars as he found the end zone three times with his legs, including a 67-yard dagger with 2:47 remaining to dash the Red Raiders’ playoff hopes.

Givens scooted for 294 yards on 19 carries and also threw for 80 yards.

Early on, it was N’Kowsi Emory who did the damage for the Jaguars. Emory scored on a 2-yard touchdown run, and just 47 seconds later, he busted loose for a 60-yard punt return to paydirt, giving Horn a quick 14-0 lead.

After forcing a Ladarius Wickware fumble Horn got a 32-yard field goal from Richard Garcia to make the score 17-0 with 6:00 left in the opening quarter.

Jamarion Miller put Lee on the board with a 66-yard touchdown run. But Garcia nailed a 40-yard field goal to push the Horn lead to 20-6.

Givens had touchdown runs of 48 and 14 yards in the second quarter to help send his team into the locker room with a 34-19 lead.

A 3-yard touchdown run by Esias Taylor with 2:39 left in the third quarter looked to be the final blow to Lee’s season, but the Red Raiders fought back.

Zaylon Walker caught a 42-yard touchdown pass from Mark Patton on the final play of the third quarter, and after a Taylor 5-yard touchdown run, Lee got touchdown runs by Miller (3 yards) and Jamal Ligon (2 yards) to cut the score to 48-41 with 3:15 to play.

However, Givens broke free for a 67-yard run on third down just 31 seconds later to put the game away for Horn (3-7).

Miller led Robert E. Lee (2-8) with 181 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries. Patton was 12-for-27 for 206 yards with a touchdown and a pick.
