MESQUITE -- Carthage edged Waco Robinson twice in its Class 4A, Region III quarterfinals double-header Friday at Mesquite's Tillery Field.

The Bulldogs (19-10) took Game 1 by a score of 2-0 and won Game 2 with a suicide squeeze in a 1-0 victory.

Starting pitcher Blaine Tomlin threw a two-hit shutout in the first game of the series. He advanced his personal record on the mound to 9-2.

The runs were scored on a Trevin Bishop RBI single and a sacrifice fly from Micah Templeton.

Cagan Baldree closed the playoff meeting with a complete game on the back side of the double-header. That moved his pitching record to 4-2 this season.

Micah Templeton executed a suicide squeeze bunt to plate Hunter Townsend.

Seth Ballenger led Carthage in the second game with a 3-for-4 night at the plate. Templeton batted 2-for-3 and Townsend went 2-for-4.

The Bulldogs will await the winner of the series between Bellville and West Orange-Stark.
