ENNIS -- After dropping the series opener, Carthage scored a pair of wins Saturday over West to advance to the regional quarterfinal round of the playoffs.

The Bulldogs scored an 8-0 victory in Game 2, and cruised to an 8-2 win in the third and decisive game of their Class 3A Region III area playoff series.

Carthage (27-7) plays China Spring in Game 1 at 7 p.m. Friday at Mesquite's J.J. Tillery Field. Game 2 is also at Tillery Field at 2 p.m. Saturday with Game 3 to follow if necessary.

In Game 2 against West, William Rittenberry tossed a two-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts. Brody Colle had a third-inning solo home run, while K.J. Harkrider collected two hits.

In the third game, Beaux Guilbeau and Blake Bogenschutz each hit a two-run homer. Colle relieved Bogenschutz in the second inning to pick up the win and move to 3-2 on the year.
