Jarrod McLin's recruiting process came to an end Friday with a commitment to UTSA.

The senior Carthage defensive end first told the news to Scout.com's Gabe Brooks. He had an additional football scholarship opportunity from Louisiana-Lafayette.

The Roadrunners program is no stranger to Carthage. Former Bulldogs quarterback Blake Bogenschutz signed with the school after winning the 2013 Class 3A Division I state championship, played in games as a true freshman and is expected to get the nod in UTSA's opening game this season against Arizona.

Former Lufkin receiver JaBryce Taylor and John Tyler cornerback Deandre Williams also are on the 2015 roster.

McLin (6-4, 212) helped push Carthage from a 1-5 start last season all the way to a share of the District 9-4A Division I title and an appearance in the area round of the playoffs.

Carthage as a whole should fair much better this season. It's favored to win its district with 15 returning starters back, including seven on the defensive side of the ball.

Coached by Larry Coker, UTSA has performed very well considering the program never played a game before 2011. Coker has a 23-23 record with back-to-back winning seasons in 2012 and 2013 as he enters his fifth year on the job.

The Roadrunners love to play high-level out-of-conference competition.

In addition to a road game at Arizona this season, the team also will visit Oklahoma State while hosting Colorado State and Kansas State at the Alamodome.

McLin's true freshman year will feature signature games against Arizona State, Colorado State and Texas A&M. Baylor and Texas State are part of the mix the following year.

There are plenty of marquee opponents on Carthage's schedule this year as well.

The team opens the season against Hallsville next week before other challenging non-district games against Lindale, Nacogdoches, Gladewater and defending state champion Gilmer before a league gauntlet headlined by Chapel Hill and Henderson.
