Only three Class 6A or 5A schools in East Texas are currently riding a longer streak of playoff appearances than Sulphur Springs, which checks in at No. 9 on ETSN.fm's preseason Class 6A/5A poll.

Sulphur Springs have made the postseason for eight consecutive years, trailing only Lufkin (17), Longview (14), and Texas High (14).

However, for the first time during that span, the Wildcats failed to achieve a winning record, finishing the 2014 season at 5-6. With significant graduation casualties, especially on the offensive end, it will be a challenge for Sulphur Springs to extend its playoff streak to nine seasons.

The Wildcats bring back just one starter on offense, after losing quarterback and Texas A&M signee Larry Pryor and an offensive line that had been the backbone behind their explosive offenses of recent years.

Fortunately for Greg Owens, who's entering his 10th season as head coach, Sulphur Springs is bringing back some much-needed experience on the defensive side of the ball.

Defensive ends Cain Cody and Derrick Weeks are nightmares on opposing tackles and quarterbacks, while Keylon "Bubba" Hall is a rangy safety capable of making game-changing plays.

Sulphur Springs will be tested in non-district against the likes of Rockwall-Heath and Whitehouse before opening District 15-5A play, which features road games at Texas High, Longview, and Hallsville.
