The 2014 meeting certainly lived up the hype, and District 16-5A championship implications could be at stake again this season when defending state champ Ennis travels East to take on reigning state semifinalist John Tyler.

The Oct. 16 clash, which ranks No. 2 on ETSN.fm's list of the top 25 games of 2015, is a rematch of the last year's barn-burner, which Ennis won, 30-27, after a late turnover resulted in a last-second field goal.

Ennis began last season 0-2, but finished the year with 14 consecutive wins, including its dramatic 38-35 victory over Cedar Park won in the waning seconds in the 5A Division II state championship game.

John Tyler recovered from the district setback to Ennis by putting together a seven-game winning steak leading into the 5A Division I state semifinal showdown vs. Aledo, which culminated with a stinging 44-14 defeat.

While this year's Ennis and JT teams will be without several key impact performers from a season ago, there will be no shortage of talent on the field come October.

Ennis welcomes back running back Tre Elliot on offense, while the returning defensive trio of defensive end Adam Gillespie, linebacker Jordan Webster, and safety Logan Lipscomb figure to give opposing offenses nightmares all season long.

Meanwhile, JT will be ushering in a new era on offense with the debut of highly-touted junior quarterback Bryson Smith. Classmate and receiver Damion Miller, a recent Texas commit who scored vs. Ennis last year, is primed for a breakout season.
