It came down to the final week of the regular season, but the Hallsville Bobcats were denied a fourth consecutive playoff appearance in 2014. Eager to get back, Hallsville begins the year ranked No. 10 in ETSN.fm's preseason Class 6A/5A poll.

Hallsville, which finished 6-4 overall and 4-3 in District 15-5A, returns 10 starters -- five offensive and five defensive -- from last season's squad.

Roger McCuller, who saw limited action at the quarterback position a year ago, is expected to take over the reins on a full-time basis in 2015. When given the chance in 2014, McCuller showed flashes of how good he could be.

His top two receiving targets figure to be 6-6 tight end Coleton Lasseter and 6-2 wideout Andrew Southard, who combined for seven touchdown catches a season ago.

Defensively, the Bobcats will be anchored by safety Lance Hardman, who is among Hallsville's top returning tacklers. Hardman, who has excellent size and speed, may also be used on the offensive side of the ball this season.

Hallsville must navigate a difficult non-district schedule, which begins with road games at Carthage and Nacogdoches and finishes with a home date against Athens, before beginning a challenging league slate.

The Bobcats, who were looking up at Longview, Texas High, Marshall, and Sulphur Springs a year ago, has Texas High, Sulphur Springs, and Longview all at home this season.
