MESQUITE -- Carthage forced a fifth set against Krum and then won it Friday at the Class 4A, Region II tournament in Mesquite to advance into today's 1 p.m. regional championship game at Poteet High School.

The Ladydawgs won Friday's regional semifinal game, 25-23, 18-25, 14-25, 25-18, 15-13, and now take on Argyle. Argyle won the Class 4A state championship last year.

Alli Capps led Carthage with 13 kills. Faith Landreneaux added 12 kills.

Carson Robertson recorded 37 assists in the five-set victory.

Carthage advanced its overall record to 36-6.

 

Beckville Tops Ponder In Five

MIDLOTHIAN  -- Beckville nearly blew a two-set lead, but it cruised in the fifth set for a 25-21, 25-19, 24-26, 21-25, 15-8 win in the Class 3A, Region III semifinals at Midlothian High School.

Riley Seegers scored a team-best 27 points in the win on 19 kills, five blocks and three aces. Kinley Blair followed closely with 21 points and Hannah Humphries scored 12 points in the long match.

Kinley Pepper recorded 58 assists.

Beckville will face Callisburg, which rallied back from down two sets to beat White Oak, today at 2 p.m. back at Midlothian High School for a state tournament berth.

 

Evadale Eliminates Carlisle

LONGVIEW -- Evadale came back from down a set to end Carlisle's time at its first regional tournament since the 1993 season in the semifinal round of the Class 2A, Region III tournament at Longview's Lobo Coliseum.

Evadale took the match by a score of 24-26, 25-19, 25-23, 25-10.

Cheyenne Vannier recorded 23 assists in the match for Carlisle. Hayley Jordan led the losing side in scoring with 14 kills.

Evadale advanced to play Iola.
