GLADEWATER – James Reese rolled up 247 yards and a pair of touchdowns on the ground as Gladewater used a ground-and-pound attack throughout en route to a 41-10 win over District 16-3A rival Spring Hill on Friday night at Jack V. Murphy-Bear Stadium.

Gladewater (3-3, 1-1) junior defensive tackle Daylon Mack made his presence known on both sides of the ball, providing pressure to the Spring Hill (2-4, 0-2) backfield on defense and adding scoring runs of 2 and 5 yards on offense in the win.

Bears quarterback Nick Canaguier threw for a touchdown and added an 11-yard score for the Bears, who travel to Bullard next week. Reese had scoring blasts of 9 and 74 yards.

Spring Hill’s Jacob Rooney had a 70-yard touchdown pass to Logan Nichols as part of a 215-yard second half through the air. Troy Duran split the uprights from 34 yards out for the Panthers, who resume 16-3A play next week by hosting Chapel Hill.

Reese capped a 16-play, 83-yard march with a 9-yard score with 2:32 remaining in the opening quarter to jumpstart 34 unanswered points.

Canaguier found Clayton Findley for a 39-yard score and Mack capped a 13-play, 85-yard march with a 2-yard run with 53 seconds remaining to give Gladewater a 20-0 lead at the break after scoring on three consecutive possessions.

Mack took a direct snap on fourth-and-3 on the Bears' first drive of the second half and provided blocking on Canaguier’s 10-yard score to push the Bears' lead to 34-0. Mack added a five-yard score on fourth-and-goal on the first play of the fourth quarter.

Rooney found Nichols over the middle to put Spring Hill on the board on the next snap from scrimmage with 11:31 to play. A Spring Hill interception set the Panthers up at the Bears 43 before the Gladewater defense held the Panthers to a 34-yard field goal from Duran.

The Bears punted for the first time with 5:29 left in the contest, setting up Spring Hill’s longest drive of the night before Gladewater's Hagen Cooper emerged with a loose ball inside the 5.

Reese then added a 74-yard scoring run with 1:32 to play for the 41-10 final.
