Everything was clicking on offense for the third-ranked John Tyler Lions last Friday in their 63-14 win over Corsicana last Friday in the District 16-4A opener.

And that included star senior quarterback Greg Ward, who completed 29 of 32 passes for 382 yards and five touchdowns while rushing for 70 yards and another touchdown

For his efforts, Ward is the ETSN.fm Dairy Queen Offensive Player of the Week.

Ward (5-10, 160), committed to Houston, tossed four of his TDs in the Lions' 35-point second quarter. His touchdowns covered 47, 24, 15, 39 and 23 yards to three different receivers. His 35-yard scoring run in the opening quarter accounted for JT's first touchdown of the night.

“He had a complete game," John Tyler coach Ricklan Holmes said. "He did a good job with the ball in the air, getting the ball to his receivers. He made some great throws. He also did it with his feet, turning draw play into a touchdown. That’s exactly what you want as a dual-threat quarterback.”

After his monster performance, Ward has now completed 88 of 130 attempts for 1,382 yards with 17 touchdowns and no interceptions. He has also rushed for 223 yards and three TDs.

“Everything is starting to come together that we’ve been practicing," Holmes said. "You practice the way you want to play, and that’s what we’ve been doing the last couple of weeks. That’s what the preseason’s for.”

Ward and the Lions (5-1, 1-0) continue their season Friday night at Lindale (1-5, 0-1).

Earning honorable mention for the award is Queen City running back Daryl Shepard, who rushed for 444 yards and seven touchdowns on just 25 carries in his team's 55-36 victory over Prairiland.
